Myriad Ways of Being

Visual artist Simone Albers (1990, Nijmegen) is fascinated by the cosmos. Her colorful, flowing landscapes—filled with galaxies, organic shapes, and black holes—translate the unseen structures of the universe into vivid visual language. The publication Myriad Ways of Being ~ Being of Myriad Ways, with contributions by Loes van Beuningen, Susan Peeters, Sabine Winters, and Wouter Engelbart, explores how Albers connects the invisible cosmos with the interconnectedness of all life. As winner of the Sieger White Award 2022, Albers received support for both this book and a solo exhibition at Maurits van de Laar Gallery in The Hague. The award helps promising talents under 35 from the eastern Netherlands take the next step in their careers.

Concept
The book design reflects Albers’ love for the cosmos, science, and nature. It needed to feel both grounded and ethereal—raw, yet refined. Every material and visual choice was made to resonate with the themes of interconnection and transformation that define her work.

What we made
We designed the book with vibrant and tactile choices: neon yellow binding yarn, blue foil on pink paper, and a visible recycled paperboard cover. The book is divided into three chapters—Heavy Meta, Fabric of Reality, and Omega & Alpha—each introduced with a custom-designed title page. The typography subtly shifts in shape and character, echoing the motion and energy in Simone’s paintings.

Throughout the book, dreamy forms drift across the page edges—each one uniquely sketched and colored. To add visual depth, artworks are lifted off the page with colored shadows, intensifying their richness. Every spread feels alive, like a visual field in motion.

Sparkles
This publication captures the cosmic curiosity at the heart of Simone Albers’ work. From its recycled materials to its glowing colors and custom forms, the book is a tribute to her vision. The Sieger White Award, named after artist duo Fred Sieger and Helen White, is beautifully embodied in this next step of Simone’s artistic journey.
